Galantamine
What is Galantamine?
Galantamine hydrobromide is an alkaloid substance from the flower of the Galanthus Caucasus plant. It is also available as a synthetic substance. It is highly revered for its ability to benefit cognitive ability, memory and learning.
Side Effects
Galantamine hydrobromide is usually very well tolerated and considered safe. However, there may be some mild side effects including nausea, headaches, dizziness, tiredness and loss of appetite although these are usually rare. Even more rarely people may suffer an allergic reaction such as a rash so do see a doctor if this happens to you.
Galantamine is a powerful supplement so you do not need a very big dosage.
How does it work?
There are two ways in which galantamine can be beneficial for you. Firstly, it inhibits acetylcholinesterase which is an enzyme that seeks to destroy acetylcholine molecules whilst new ones are being made. If acetylcholinesterase is inhibited then there is an increased amount of acetylcholine neurotransmitters within the brain, improving the function of the central nervous system. It also binds itself to acetylcholine receptors, making the receptors more receptive to the acetylcholine.
There is also a belief that galantamine enables the release of different neurotransmitters including adrenaline and noradrenaline.
Benefits
Galantamine is great to enhance cognitive ability and even improve intelligence. Within the bodybuilding community, galantamine is popular as it helps people to maintain focus and get an edge over competitors. Mental ability is really important in addition to physical fitness when it comes to competitions as you need to stay focused and concentrate on the task at hand. Enabling your brain to communicate better with the rest of your body is key in maximising your athletic ability. As well as improving cognition, galantamine can also enable better muscle control and balance as the messages between your brain and body are working in an optimum way. On the most basic level galantamine helps by increasing motivation and drive, which is great in helping to get you to the gym to workout, even after a long and stressful day.
